An exceptional pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. white Carrara marble andirons. Carved from a solid piece of Carrara marble the pair of female sphinx pose grandly on scrolled supports. The sphinx with feathers in their hair are draped in cloaks decorated with the design of the royal Fleur de Lys. Each beautifully etched support displays a formal crest among a foliate design. The side support is decorated with cabochons below a rosette.

An exceptional and grand scale French mid 19th century Louis XIV st., pair of andirons. The pair, with all original gilt, are raised by a rectangular base with supports. The front with a mask of Baccus amidst garlands of grapes and foliage. Each side is decorated by a lyre all below the top urn with acanthus leaves, shells and a central cabochon. The pair is finished with the eternal flame at the top.

A rare and high quality pair of American 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu andirons. Signed ‘E. C’ for E. F. Caldwell and dated 1868, on both handles. The pair are raised by impressive tapering square supports below handsome diamond shaped corner blocks with a large acorn designed top finial. Each has a guilloche shaped frieze above a rich acorn garland, one with a medallion of a maiden the other of a wise man, surrounded by a beaded row. At the top is a most attractive pierced flaming urn flanked by lion head shaped handles. Wonderful quality throughout.
