A rare and high quality pair of American 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu andirons. Signed ‘E. C’ for E. F. Caldwell and dated 1868, on both handles. The pair are raised by impressive tapering square supports below handsome diamond shaped corner blocks with a large acorn designed top finial. Each has a guilloche shaped frieze above a rich acorn garland, one with a medallion of a maiden the other of a wise man, surrounded by a beaded row. At the top is a most attractive pierced flaming urn flanked by lion head shaped handles. Wonderful quality throughout. Available CedricDupontAntiques.com
