An exceptional French 19th century Louis XVI st. square Aubusson antique woven wool carpet. The beautiful beige colored field with blue guard borders has a central medallion. The tapis is resplendent with pale blue urns of prosperity with blossoming floral bouquets, golden serpents and rose colored scrolls, acanthus leaves and ribbons amidst lovely floral branches and gold cornucopia. The central medallion with eternity borders encircles the rose colored central rosette.
Aubusson rugs were at first based on Persian models when a center of French carpet production began in the mid 17th century. These flat woven wool carpets were created mainly for the sophisticated wealthy European client to buy. Aubusson rugs graced the floors throughout all of Europe in the 17th and the 18th century.
