Italian 19th Century Alabaster, Porphyry And Marble Centerpiece
Item # 5270
An exquisite Italian mid 19th century alabaster, porphyry and marble inkwell centerpiece. The centerpiece is raised by a round moulded Breccia de Guillestre marble base with three rectangular mottled supports below. On top of the base are three rectangular Jaune de Valnce marble plates with each a marble lion resting on top, holding the scale of justice and declaration pages. In between each lion are three ormolu fitted urns. The middle of the centerpiece is a circular moulded Brocatelle Jaune du Jura marble column, topped by an alabaster circular support with a beaded trim and the word “Filangieri” carved around the column, after the Italian jurist and philosopher Geatono Filangieri. All below the porphyry moulded support, holding up the Jaune de Valance marble statue of Geatano Filangieri dressed in the proper advocate attire.
