A very handsome French 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany desk. The desk is raised on slender tapered legs with ormolu sabots and a three dimensional inlay of chamwood and tulipwood. At the apron is a wide central drawer flanked by two drawers on each side. All the drawers and sides, have a central tulipwood panel bordered by a Greek key designed trim inlay of charmwood. Each drawer has a finely chased ormolu key and keyhole escutcheon. At the top is a central gilt tooled green leather surface with panels of tulipwood on each side trimmed with a charmwood inlay, all within a mahogany border. All original gilt and rich warm patina throughout.
