A sensational French 19th century Louis XVI st. Moucheté mahogany and ormolu bed signed Maison Millet. The bed is raised on four topie shaped feet with ormolu sabots and acanthus leaf top bands. Above each foot at the corners are sensational and richly chased pierced ormolu berried rosettes. Each tapering fluted column with ormolu acanthus leaf plinths and capitals, display ormolu chandelles and fine square rosettes and an extremely decorative top acorn finial. The scalloped shaped foot board, decorated on both sides, displays beaded and acanthus leaf ormolu trim framing each recessed Moucheté mahogany panel and two luxurious foliate side mounts with hoof feet. The majestic headboard bearing the 'Millet' stamp also displays exquisite ormolu filets and Moucheté mahogany recessed panels below a richly chased pierced foliate wreath with a central ruban noué. Each side panel is also extremely decorative in the same fashion as the foot and head board. Retrofitted to accommodate a king size bed. All original gilt.

THEODORE MILLET (c.1853-c.1904) Maison Millet was a renowned 19th century furniture atelier that was described as producing Antique furniture and bronze art, specializing in the Louis XV and XVI styles. The company won several awards in a series of exhibitions in London and Paris, such as the gold medal in the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle, a Grand Prix in 1900 and three further diplomes d'honneur and four médailles d'or for the furniture they produced. In March 1902, the firm was authorized by the Palace of Versailles to replicate Marie-Antoinette's celebrated Grand cabinet à bijoux.
