A stunning pair of Italian 18th century Louis XVI period giltwood armchairs. Each armchair is raised by four sensationally carved circular tapered fluted legs with a wonderful spiral pattern, topie shaped feet and acanthus leaf carvings. Above each leg are richly carved recessed rosette blocks that flank the straight frieze decorated with foliate carvings and centered by a single elegant rosette. Each arm displays a wonderful rich and unique movement with a mottled and scrolled spiral motion that encompasses the Chagrin upholstered fitted cushion seat. The balloon shaped back, upholstered in the same manner, displays a fine carved rosette atop amidst foliate carvings. All original gilt.
