Item # 7440
A sensational and extremely high quality pair of French 17th century Louis XIV period eight arm fire gilded ormolu and rock crystal girondoles, circa 1680. Each girondole is raised by a circular mottled base with fine seashell and floral patterns, and richly chased female maidens set on a hammered background. Above a circular entrelacs et les rosaces design is the square central support with cut corners and floral chasing, below rich alternating male and female busts. Each intricate scrolled arm displays striking hammered designs and is adorned with rock crystal pendants. The arms begin at the center with fine acanthus leaves and crystal pendants, that lead up past the stunning candle cups and bobéches, with an impressive pierced crown at the top. All original gilt.
