A magnificent French 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated and giltwood buffet. This unique and stunning buffet is truly an exemplary specimen of the highest quality Parisian work. This four door, four drawer buffet is raised by circular tapered legs with elegant spiral fluting. At the center is a striking hand painted Grisaille of Cupid above a fine giltwood band of carved entrelacs et les rosaces patterns, and below a gilt wood plaque with a very strong likeness to those created by Clodion in ormolu. The front displays two doors, with the original fitted beveled glass panes, framed within a patinated and mottled giltwood border, decorated by richly carved corner rosettes. Each side display protruding spiral patinated and giltwood fitted fluted columns, leading to the most impressive curved side glass doors with their original glass panes The apron displays four drawers, separated by a richly carved giltwood plaque of detailed cherubs at play, with elaborate Vitruvian scrolls and finely chased ormolu tear drop pulls. Above is the original white Carrara marble top with a moulded border and fitted within a most impressive carved giltwood fluted border.
