A stunning and extremely rare Italian 19th century Micro-Mosaic, marble and giltwood Roman center table, circa 1855. The table is raised by a striking giltwood base with handsome carved paw feet and a mottled triangular bottom tier with cut corners and concave sides. The central support with carved reeded and fluted patterns, and large acanthus leaves, is centered by three finely carved elaborate mythological creatures. Each richly carved creature displays a crowned griffin head, female torso and rich scrolled acanthus leaves. Above is the magnificent fitted black Belgium marble top with inlaid Malachite and Micro-Mosaics. At the border is a rare and vivid colored blue outer band with a yellow border and palmettes framing a swan. At the center is the impressive and masterfully executed Micro-Mosaic of the famous Piazza San Pietro framed with in an extremely decorative Malachite band. At the sides are four other equally impressive, smaller inlaid Micro-Mosaics of Roman ruins; The Pantheon, The Colosseum and the Ponte Sant'Angelo each framed in a Malachite band and separated by outstanding and wonderfully colored, detailed Micro-Mosaic blooming flowers.
