French 19th Century Louis XV St. Ormolu And Frosted Glass Lantern

An extraordinary and rare French 19th century Louis XV st. ormolu and frosted glass lantern. The large lantern is centered by an exquisitely chased, 'Flame Eternelle' (flame of prosperity), ormolu bottom inverted finial with scrolled mounts and rich blossoming flowers. Leading up each side are rich foliate ormolu movements and finely detailed acanthus leaves encasing the frosted glass which houses four light bulbs lighting up the whole with a warm inviting glow. The impressive pierced top crown displays a Les Oves designed border and an elegant fluted and reeded pattern below the original hook. All original gilt throughout. Impressive proportions.
