A superb and unique French 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany and ormolu desk. The desk is raised on tapered fluted legs with ormolu chandelles and topie feet with ormolu sabots. At the impressive apron is a single drawer which has a secret mechanism that releases the drawer. Decorating the apron is a bottom ormolu border with a pierced ormolu Vitruvian scrolled design, accented with rosettes amidst foliate. At each slightly protruding corner is an ormolu plaque with a fitted Lapis Lazuli insert. All below the wonderful top that is centered by a gilt tooled burgundy leather within a beautiful exotic wood foliate marquetry border, accented with rosettes at each corner. All within a finely chased ormolu gallery.
