A charming high quality French 19th century patinated bronze statue named 'Paysanne nourrissant des oiseaux', by Mathurin Moreau. The elegant statue is raised by a circular mottled Rouge Griotte marble base below a finely detailed terrain designed patinated bronze base. The bronze is of a lovely seated maiden dressed in classical attire holding a bowl of grain, feeding the richly sculpted birds at her feet. All original warm patina throughout, wonderful proportions.
Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912), a renowned French sculptor. Born in Dijon he first exhibited in the 1848 Salon and received a medal of honor from the salon in 1897. Many of his works of art are displayed in and around Paris, including the Luxembourg Palace, The d'Orsay and Arts et Métiers museums.
