A museum quality Italian early 18th century Louis XIV period patinated and giltwood Roman chest, circa 1730. This rare and high quality three drawer commode is raised by elegant legs with light scrolls topped with foliate giltwood carvings. Giltwood fillets extend across the richly carved scalloped shaped frieze centered by a striking foliate giltwood reserve. Each side is opulently decorated with central scrolled acanthus leaf giltwood reserves amidst additional scrolling foliate. The two lower drawers display most impressive carved giltwood foliate movements and a central foliate giltwood keyhole escutcheons with fine ormolu handles. The top slimmer drawer is decorated with a handsome Greek key design that continue on the sides. Above is the original and most impressive Sienna veneered marble top with a stunning and richly chased fitted ormolu gallery. With all original gilt throughout.
