A sensational French 18th century Regence period giltwood and marble freestanding console circa 1720. The console is raised by handsome hoof feet below most impressive thick cabriole legs. Each leg is adorned with detailed and richly carved foliate movements on a finely and delicately etched background. The legs are connected by an X shaped stretcher with wonderful scrolled movements and reeded foliate patterns with a magnificent pierced central seashell and foliate reserve. Above each leg are richly carved seashell cabochons flanking the arbalest shaped frieze. At the frieze is a stunning lattice design and central majestic seashell reserve with pierced foliate details. Above is the original thick Breche marble top. Striking satin and burnished finish throughout. All original gilt.
