Item # 8716
Category: Objets D'art
A spectacular Italian 19th century alabaster and marble statue of Greek godess Ariadne seated on her panther. The green marble pedestal has a hexagonal shaped support with circular base and fluted Corinthian revolving column.
In Greek mythology, Ariadne was daughter to Minos, the son of Zeus. Associated with mazes and labyrinths because of her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus. Shown here riding on one of her husband's, Duinysius God of wine and festivities, panthers.
