A French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Ormolu Vanity Mirror Signed Susse Frères à Paris

A most impressive and elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu vanity mirror signed Susse Frères à Paris. Raised by tapered feet below a base with a richly chased central drawer decorated with detailed cherubs amidst rinceau shaped foliate patterns on a wonderfully etched background. The drawer opens to reveal the signature and is flanked by berried laurel bands and fluted patterns. Above a most decorative foliate band are rich scrolled supports leading up to the oval beveled mirror. The original beveled mirror plate is framed within a beaded and tied pattern, decorated with finely detailed swaging floral garlands and a tied ribbon laurel wreath. At each side are beautiful maidens and two C scrolled candelabras. All original gilt throughout.
The Susse Frères firm is a renowned 19th century Parisian large foundry business. The company is well known for their fine bronze castings with superb chasing. After the death of Pierre-Jules Mène in 1879, the Susse Frères foundry acquired the rights to reproduce his models marked "Susse foundeur éditeur, Paris"
