A handsome German 19th century Bronze signed and dated Moser 1851 with a verdigris patina. The bronze is raised by a circular moulded base decorated with a detailed fishing net and fish amidst a shell and foliate design. The attractive mermaid (Melusine) with two tails embraces a fisherman who is wearing a hat atop of his long hair. All original patina, wonderful proportions and details throughout.
Adalbert Julius Karl Moser (born in Berlin June 14, 1832 -1916) was a renowned German sculptor.Moser studied at the Berlin Academy under the tutelage of Ferdinand August Fischer and Friedrich Drake. Moser studied abroad in Paris and Rome from 1857 to 1858. He was also a Royal professor in Berlin in 1888. His statues and monuments are displayed at the National Gallery, Holy Trinity Church in Berlin, and a colossal bronze statue of King Friedrich of Prussia, just to name a few.
