An elegant and fanciful French 19th century Louis XVI st. double frame giltwood mirror. The rectangular shaped frame with protruding corners and curved crown has a bottom draped design with a central tied bow. The frame with a richly detailed egg and dart border has a carved reserve on each side with a shield and a quiver amidst olive branches on the left, likewise decorated on the right with the eternal flame. The central oval beveled mirror plate is framed within a twisted rope giltwood border and outer original beveled mirror plates. At the top is a stunning and elaborate pierced reserve with a large carved acanthus leaf flanked by ‘C’ and ‘S’ scrolled berried laurel branches. Rich and warm patina throughout.
