An incredible and extremely high quality French late 18th century Louis XVI period ormolu, white Carrara marble and black Belgium marble clock signed Déliau - Rue De La Bartillerie No. 24 A Paris. The clock is raised by etched topie shaped ormolu feet below a demi-lune shaped black Belgium marble tier. The mottled white Carrara marble base displays a beaded ormolu trim and a richly chased fitted ormolu plaque of charming winged cherubs and cupids playing outside on an etched background. The incredibly sculpted white Carrara marble displays a rock design with a finely etched finish and is centered by the beautiful white enamel clock face which displays the days written in French, the hours, the minutes and even the date. Fitted within the marble rock design are two richly chased cherubs, one playing and one writing while an extremely elegant and wonderfully detailed maiden sits above with floral wreaths in her hand and draped in her garment. All original gilt throughout. Fabulous attention to detail.
