A very attractive and very fine quality French 19th century Louis XV st. tulipwood and kingwood ormolu desk. The desk is raised by impressive tulipwood inlaid cabriole legs ending with wrap around ormolu sabots. At the top of each leg are exquisite and richly chased ormolu busts of a classical maiden. The arbalest shaped apron has three drawers with a central ormolu keyhole escutcheon surrounded by tulipwood and an outer band of kingwood all within ormolu borders. The two sides are similarly decorated with a central ormolu mount with foliate scrolls flanking a shell. The top has a very elaborate quadruple quarter veneered border surrounded by a most impressive mottled ormolu gallery with corner mounts. All original mounts and hardware throughout.
