An Italian 19th Century Alabaster And Marble Statue Of A Greek Goddess Ariadne

Item # 9105 Dimensions: H: 17" L: 13.75" D: 6"

Category: Objets D'art
An elegant and decorative Italian 19th century alabaster and marble statue of a Greek goddess Ariadne seated on her panther. Gazing towards her left while her elbow rests on her panther's head, she holds a classical draping garment. Well executed with fine details though out.

In Greek mythology, Ariadne was a daughter of Minos, the son of Zeus. Associated with mazes and labyrinths because of her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus. Shown here riding on one of her husband's, Dionysius God of wine and festivities, panther.
