A high quality and large scale French 19th century patinated bronze statue of a young male soldier, signed E. Picault. The young soldier is wearing high boots and his uniform, with a belt tied around his waist and gunpowder pouch hanging from his hip. The soldier is wearing a helmet and holding his rifle in his right hand while holding the rifle cleaning cloth in his left hand. All original rich and warm patina throughout.
Émile Louis Picault Born in Paris, France on August 24, 1833.
Picault studied with the painter Henri Royer and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon between 1863 and 1914. Picault died in 1915 in Paris, France. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Troyes Museum in Paris and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Chambery. He was a prolific French Orientalist sculptor known for his bronzes depicting allegorical and mythological scenes. Picault often chose warriors and heroes as subjects
