A sensational and most impressive Italian mid 18th century Neo-Classicism giltwood mirror, to honor the Barberlini Family of Rome featuring the symbolic Bees. The gilt frame has a flat mottled base below a Gothic style design dedicated to Pope Urban VIII, who was a descendant of the Barberini family. Both sides have reeded columns flanking designs of scrolls, rosettes and Palmettes. At the top are block rosettes at each side of similar reeded designs. The top has a fanciful and elaborate crown with a central weave basket with a bouquet of blossoming flowers amidst scrolled foliate scrolls accented by six large bee medallions. Reminiscent of the Barberlini family Crest that features bees. With all original gilt.
