French Early 19th Century Neo-Classical St. Maple And Bleu Turquin Marble Console

A most impressive French early 19th century Neo-Classical st. birds eye maple, Bleu Turquin marble and Wedgwood freestanding console. The console is raised by a decorative concave bottom tier showcasing the exquisite wood grain and centered by a richly chased ormolu reserve. Each elegant lightly curved support displays paw feet, impressive pierced ormolu foliate corner mounts and stars at each side. At the frieze is a mechanical drawer which is opened by a concealed button. The drawer is decorated with a striking circular Wedgwood reserve of cherubs playing and riding a lion flanked by fine pierced foliate ormolu mounts. At each corner are detailed ormolu masks of Medusa. Above is the original thick Bleu Turquin marble top with a mottled border and rounded corners.
