A sensational quality and extremely elegant 18th century, circa. 1750, French Louis XV period 'bureau a cylindre'. The bureau is raised by four cabriole legs decorated by ormolu chutes and sabots. The chutes continue to the scalloped apron with three drawers and inlaid bands of tulipwood and charmwood bordered by kingwood. Above is the roll top cylinder, in quarter veneered tulipwood. The roll top opens to a brown fitted leather pull-out writing surface with four drawers above an open compartment. ormolu mounts on each side with a male and a female figure. The top has a ? pierced ormolu gallery. The bureau is finished on all sides. All original mounts and gilt. Length: 33" Depth: 18" Height: 38.5"
