An extraordinary and very handsome large scale Italian late 17th century, early 18th century solid walnut Renaissance commode. The remarkable chest is raised on solid tapered feet below a carved designed frieze. The three wide drawers have unique carved bust handles and central patinated bronze keyhole escutcheons. The two smaller drawers above also with patinated bronze keyhole escutcheons, are centered by two carved figures holding a family crest. All the drawers have robust carved borders and are flanked by three scrolled tiers of carved figures. The side panels and solid top also have wonderfully carved borders.
