A fine French 18th century Louis XVI Period kingwood, tulipwood and ormolu commode, signed JME. The chest is raised by circular tapered legs with wonderful inlays shaded to mimic a fluted design, also repeated along the frieze. Above each leg is an ormolu block rosette below an inlaid fluted design and pierced ormolu mount. At the center are two drawers, "sans traverse" (without crossbar) with richly chased tied ribbon designed keyhole escutcheons, circular ormolu pulls and fine interlocking inlaid designs. To each side are curved doors below top drawers, each decorated with tied ribbon keyhole escutcheons and ormolu pulls. Above is the original Sarrancolin marble top which mimics the shape of the chest below and displays a mottled border. — Read Less
