A stunning and large scale French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze, ormolu, giltwood, white Carrara marble and walnut clock on it's original pedestal, signed Machault. The clock is raised by its original elegant octagonal walnut column with bun feet, a mottled base and lovely fluted designs with richly carved floral and foliate giltwood accents. The clock is supported by a fine thick white Carrara marble base with a mottled border. The clock displays a striking and wonderfully executed ground like design where the most charming cherub is standing. At his feet are a tree truck where the signature is displayed and the clock to his left fitted within a beautiful rock like design in a rich satin and burnished finish. The black face displays fine ormolu Roman numerals and hands framed within a coeur-de-rai and beaded border. A sweet bird is perched above next to a finely detailed branch with oak leaves and charming acorns. The cherub is holding the bird's chicks in his hands while draped in a flowing floral garland.
