A stunning and most decorative German 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and Oak wall decor plaque signed Gustav Grohe. The wonderfully executed and exquisitely detailed ormolu plaque depicts charming Bacchanalian cherubs preparing the spoils of their hunt for a feast. All are lending a hand and enjoying preparing the feast with baskets of ripe fruit, a deer, birds, fish, and cherubs at the right making wine. Set within its original mottled Oak frame.
Gustav Grohe was a German artist and bronze worker born in 1829 and active in Berlin. He participated in exhibitions of the Verein Berliner Künstler in 1869 and 1891, and a trade fair in 1879. He has made plaques for Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria and still has medals in circulation. Grohe passed away in 1906 at the age of 77 in Berlin. — Read Less
