Theodore Deck Read More

Theodore Deck (1823-1891) was a renowned ceramist born in Guebwiller, France. His vocation revealed itself during a trip to Switzerland. Following multiple apprenticeships he opened his own production and invented the turquoise glaze that came to be known as "bleu de Deck". No one knows how he made it and he first applied it to his Iznik-inspired pottery. He also used it to emulate Chinese monochrome wares, making the turquoise glaze itself the primary focus.
