A sensational and large scale Continental late 17th century Oil on Canvas of Vertumnus and Pomona

Vertumnus is seated holding one hand up and the other holding the arm of Pomona, while seemingly warning her. Pomona is seated intently listening to Vertumnus while holding a peach in one hand and her other laying firmly on a watermelon. Exceptional execution with wonderfully vivid colors.

The painting is framed within its original and spectacular Louis XVI period giltwood frame with an egg and dart inner trim. At the bottom is a centered decoration of two berried laurel branches tied together with a large richly detailed bow. At the two top corners are swaging garlands filled with fruits, signifying Pomona’s fruits.
