A fine French 19th century Belle Epoque Period Louis XV st. Ormolu and Baccarat Crystal floor lamp. The impressive lamp is raised on a tripod designed base with wonderful Ormolu foliate feet below stunning crest shaped reserves adorned with bands of stars and Rocaille scrolls. A wonderful Ormolu egg and dart band accented with foliate scrolls surrounds the spiral fluted Crystal base leading to a Crystal ball above a foliate designed reserve with beaded elements. The stunning Crystal ball displays similar spiral fluted designs with a central Ormolu band displaying Rocaille crest on all sides. Leading up to the spiral fluted Crystal fut is an additional Ormolu band with foliate accents below a luxuriant Ormolu reserve of palmettes. At the top is a wonderfully detailed Ormolu capital displaying additional scrolled movements, palmettes and a lovely pagoda like top. — Read Less

In 1764 King Louis XV of France gave permission to found a glassworks in the town of Baccarat. Production consisted of window panes, mirrors and stemware until 1816 when the first crystal oven went into operation. By that time over 3000 workers were employed at the site.
Baccarat was famous and requested by many royal houses and received its first royal commission in 1823. This began a lengthy line of commissions for royalty and heads of state throughout the world. In 1855 Baccarat won its first gold medal at the Worlds Fair in Paris after which they began to mark their creations towards the end of the 19th century.
