A stunning French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque Period demi lune chest Marqueté à la Reine, by P. Sormani. The chest is raised by elegant square tapered legs with fine ormolu block sabots, foliate designs, etched ormolu chutes and striking top caps. The D shaped chest displays two central drawers with a beautiful marquetry design of geometric interlocking patterns and wonderfully executed floral designs. Each drawer is 'sans traverse', without crossbar, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship and displays richly chased berried laurel ormolu pulls and foliate keyhole escutcheons. At each side are curved doors, also displaying the same wonderful marquetry design, which opens to display an elegant quarter veneered design, original hardware and one shelf. Above is one drawer decorated with inlaid wood Vitruvian scrolls also repeated at each side. Above is the original Fleur de Pêcher marble top with a mottled border. — Read Less
