A sensational and large scale French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and Baccarat crystal chandelier. The twelve arm sixteen light chandelier is centered by the original stunning crystal ball with fine fluted designs below the beautifully shaped ormolu cage. The cage and each of the lovely scrolled arms are adorned with a stunning array of thick high quality tear drop and kite shaped Baccarat crystal pendants leading to circular mottled bobeches and elegant baluster shaped candle cups. At the center is the impressive fut encased within stunning Baccarat crystal reserves with exceptional and most decorative curved movements adorned with additional beautiful crystal pendants. Leading up the cage are fine reserves and four striking daggers also repeated at the top all below the remarkable top crown with superb ormolu sprays also adorned with beautiful tear drop and kite shaped crystal pendants.

In 1764 King Louis XV of France gave permission to found a glassworks in the town of Baccarat. Production consisted of window panes, mirrors and stemware until 1816 when the first crystal oven went into operation. By that time over 3000 workers were employed at the site.
Baccarat was famous and requested by many royal houses and received its first royal commission in 1823. This began a lengthy line of commissions for royalty and heads of state throughout the world. In 1855 Baccarat won its first gold medal at the Worlds Fair in Paris after which they began to mark their creations towards the end of the 19th century.
