A beautiful French 19th century Neo-Classical st. Rouge Griotte marble and ormolu tazza attributed to F. Barbedienne. The urn is raised by a square Rouge Griotte marble base with a fine bottom ormolu fillet. The ormolu socle shaped support displays an elegant mottled design with lovely foliate movements and a reeded wrap around band. The Rouge Griotte body displays a beautiful mottled design with fitted wrap around ormolu bands leading to finely curved fluted handles and a striking richly chased ormolu plaque of a maiden and a smoldering urn. All original gilt throughout.
Ferdinand Barbedienne (10 January 1810 – 21 March 1892) Barbadienne was a French renowned bronzier. Between 1850 and 1854 his firm , Barbedienne,, provided furnishings in the Renaissance Revival style for the Hôtel de Ville, Paris. They received numerous medals at the International Exhibitions, including medals in three different classes at the International Exhibition of 1862 in London. — Read Less
