An exquisite and very high quality French mid 18th century Louis XV period giltwood mirror possibly created for Royal nobility. The beautiful small scale mirror retains its original mirror plate set within an elegant wrap around tied fluted border. The frame displays a stunning array of most decorative richly carved scrolled foliate movements and gadroon designs with charming richly carved seashells at the bottom corners centering a family crest with the Fleur de Lys. The pierced top crown displays a magnificent dolphin at the center flanked by laurel branches and superb scrolled movements leading down the sides. The dolphin (Le Dauphin) symbolized the eldest son of the king of France and thus the heir apparent to the throne of France. All original gilt throughout. — Read Less
