A high quality and most decorative French mid 19th century framed painting. The oil on wooden panel is a scene of a maiden at a windowsill in conversation with a man leaning over the window. The man seems irritated while two onlookers are watching from behind. A charming cherub is listening from under the windowsill as well as other cherubs in a lidded barrel inscribed 'house of joy'. The carved oak frame has fluted columns below a rosette that flank a top horizontal foliate band with a central rosette. Rich and warm patina throughout the frame.
