A striking and wonderfully detailed pair of Italian 19th century Oil on Canvas paintings. These wonderful paintings are set within rectangular Giltwood frames with an inner berried foliate band and mottled outer edges. Each painting depicts a classical landscape of ruins with the Athenian Acropolis in the background. The left painting displays an impressive altar to Athena of Velletri with classical figures paying tribute aside a smoldering urn. Athena's companion Hermes can be seen flying above the crowds of people and overseeing the occasion. The painting to the right displays a classical ruin with the Acropolis in the distance.
