A beautiful and most decorative pair of Italian early 19th century Neo-Classical st. architectural engravings after Giovanni Ottaviani. Each striking rectangular engraving depicts lovely architectural scenes of impressive doors with handsome lion head pulls with fine foliate designs and a family crest flanked by columns with a striking curved top. Colorful foliate and mythological designs extend up each side all below the exceptional coffered dome like top with wonderfully executed individual scenes and central globe like design held up by a maiden. Each is set within a beaded band with a linen border and a gilt and ebony mottled frame.
Giovanni Ottaviani (1735-1808) was an Roman engraver best-known for his series of plates of the Vatican Loggie in the 1770s, of which he engraved the first two parts, and Volpato the third currently displayed at Blythe House in London. — Read Less
