A very handsome Austrian 19th century patinated Bronze and Vert de Patricia marble statue, signed and stamped F. Gornik. The statue of a gladiator with a lion, a lioness, and a panther is raised by a think rectangular Vert de Patricia marble stepped plinth below a patinated Bronze base displaying the signature and rock inscribed ROMA. The impressive gladiator is dressed in period armor with leather leashes in his left hand while wearing a gauntlet on his right and holding a whip. His ferocious and superbly detailed companions are wearing harnesses and are tied together with chains, with two facing forward and one seemingly looking back at him in defiance. Wonderful proportions and exceptional attention to detail throughout.
