A magnificent and very large scale French 19th century Louis XVI st. Vert de Patricia marble and ormolu urn, attributed to Henry Dasson. The lidded urn is raised on a marble socle decorated with opulent large scrolled ormolu mounts topped with acanthus leaves. The body has very handsome scrolled handles of finely chased female busts amidst acanthus leaves and Vitruvian scrolls accented by rosettes. The handles are joined with large berried laurel garlands looped through a ring at the front and back. At the top is the removable lid wonderfully decorated with foliate finial and base. All original gilt throughout. Henry Dasson (1825é1896) was a renowned 19th century Parisian maker of gilt-bronze mounted furniture. Unlike other cabinetmakers of the time Dasson began his career as a bronze sculptor, and consequently, one characteristic of his work is the quality of his bronze and more precisely of the chiseling. His Paris workshop was situated at 106 rue Vieille-du-Temple, where he specialized in the production of Louis XIV, XV and XVI style furniture using the finest gilt-bronze mounts. — Read Less
