A sensational and most important French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period mahogany, ormolu and Sèvres porcelain, nine drawers two doors, Commode à Portes. The original chest was created for Queen Marie-Antoinette in 1786 for the gaming salon at Fontainebleau Palace. This palatial chest is raised by handsome circular tapered topie shaped legs with striking fitted foliate and acorn designed sabots. Extending along the straight frieze are beautiful swaging garlands and tied ribbons. Above each leg is a superb fluted column with brass fillet and fitted foliate ormolu chandelles. The front two doors display stunning detail with masterfully executed scrolled foliate rinceaux patterns centering the most impressive ormolu plaque, after renowned master Bronzier Clodion. The doors open to display six drawers with fine berried laurel ormolu pulls. The drawers above also display spectacular details of pierced scrolled ormolu patterns and a central handsome and powerful lion's head. Each side displays an extremely charming and high quality Sèvres plaque framed within an ormolu band, foliate designs and flanked by the handsome fluted columns. Above is the stunning original thick marble top with a double mottled border and rounded edges repeating the beautiful shape of the chest below. — Read Less
