A stunning pair of French 19th century Neo-Classical Period Louis XIV st. Ormolu and Baccarat crystal candelabras lamps. Each six arm candelabra is raised on a triangular base with three delicately tapered fluted feet below exceptional richly chased sphinges with acanthus leaves centering beautiful draped reserves, all in a superb satin and burnished finish. The mottled central support displays finely detailed wrap around berried laurel garlands and an elegantly curved design from where the scrolled arms branch out. Each arm is adorned with finely detailed acanthus leaves, with teardrop and star shaped rosette crystal pendants leading to subtle rock crystal bobeches with charming candle cups. The central fut is encased with very elegant Baccarat crystals which supports three small tiers of scrolled sprays with additional teardrop and rosette star crystal decorations. — Read Less

In 1764 King Louis XV of France gave permission to found a glassworks in the town of Baccarat. Production consisted of window panes, mirrors and stemware until 1816 when the first crystal oven went into operation. By that time over 3000 workers were employed at the site.
Baccarat was famous and requested by many royal houses and received its first royal commission in 1823. This began a lengthy line of commissions for royalty and heads of state throughout the world. In 1855 Baccarat won its first gold medal at the Worlds Fair in Paris after which they began to mark their creations towards the end of the 19th century.
