A striking French 19th century patinated bronze statue of Augustus of Prima Porta. The statue of Augustus, also known as Julius Caesar, is raised by a circular patinated bronze base with a charming baby Cupid pulling at his hem. Above is emperor Augustus standing proudly with his right arm raised while draped in a wonderfully executed flowing fabric. His impressive and finely detailed armor depicts the God of the Sky and the Goddess of the earth at the center. Cupid was the son of the goddess Venus and Augustus traced his ancestry back to Aeneas, who was the founder of Rome and also the son of Venus. Cupid is said to be present to remind us that Augustus is a descendant of a goddess.
Statue Height: 18"
